Apple Market Size in Singapore

In 2021, the Singaporean apple market decreased by -11.7% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Apple consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Apple exports from Singapore shrank significantly to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -16.3% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports showed a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 19%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 11%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apple imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 12%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of apple to Singapore, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, apple imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, New Zealand (X tons), twofold. South Africa (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+0.0% per year) and South Africa (-4.6% per year).
