Green Coffee Market Size in Singapore

The Singaporean green coffee market soared to $X in 2022, rising by 97% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, showed a mild decline. Green coffee consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of coffee (green) increased by 2.3% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, total exports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, green coffee exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded pronounced growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 80%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X tons), the United States (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) were the main destinations of green coffee exports from Singapore, with a combined 66% share of total exports. Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Hong Kong SAR, Germany, Japan and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +112.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), the United States ($X) and the Philippines ($X) were the largest markets for green coffee exported from Singapore worldwide, together accounting for 65% of total exports. Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Hong Kong SAR, Germany, Japan and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Among the main countries of destination, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +73.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average green coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 1.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of coffee (green) imported into Singapore skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 27% on 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, green coffee imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of green coffee to Singapore, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, green coffee imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Colombia (X tons), with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Indonesia totaled -1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-1.5% per year) and Colombia (+12.4% per year).

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coffee (green) to Singapore, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia stood at -4.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-0.5% per year) and Colombia (+14.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average green coffee import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 58% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
