In value terms, construction sands exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 117%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
British Indian Ocean Territory (X tons) was the main destination for construction sands exports from Singapore, with a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, construction sands exports to British Indian Ocean Territory exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Spain (X tons), with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to British Indian Ocean Territory amounted to -15.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-6.9% per year) and Spain (-14.6% per year).
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for construction sands exports from Singapore, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Malaysia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (-9.5% per year) and Spain (-4.5% per year).

The average construction sands export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 189%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to British Indian Ocean Territory ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Maldives (+18.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of construction sands decreased by -13.1% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 18,430% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, construction sands imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 404%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) was the main supplier of construction sands to Singapore, accounting for a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by the Philippines (X tons), with a 1.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Malaysia amounted to +55.2%.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of construction sands to Singapore, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with a 3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Malaysia totaled +107.9%.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
