The Singaporean capacitor market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption enjoyed a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2021, shipments abroad of electrical capacitors increased by 24% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 30%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, capacitor exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Malaysia (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of capacitor exports from Singapore, together accounting for 60% of total exports. These countries were followed by India, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese), the Philippines, Germany and the United States, which together accounted for a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +5.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for capacitor exported from Singapore were China ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising 50% of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan (Chinese), the Philippines, the United States and Germany, which together accounted for a further 42%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of +6.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average capacitor export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Singapore
Capacitor imports into Singapore expanded markedly to X tons in 2021, growing by 15% compared with the year before. In general, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +10.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 48%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, capacitor imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +73.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Indonesia (X tons), China (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of capacitor imports to Singapore, together comprising 71% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Japan, Thailand and India, which together accounted for a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +18.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), China ($X) and Indonesia ($X) appeared to be the largest capacitor suppliers to Singapore, together comprising 61% of total imports. Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
The Philippines, with a CAGR of +12.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average capacitor import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
