Exports by Country
Indonesia (X tons) was the main destination for malt exports from Singapore, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, malt exports to Indonesia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Indonesia stood at +216.7%.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the key foreign market for malt (not roasted) exports from Singapore, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Indonesia amounted to +232.0%.
Export Prices by Country
The average malt export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 152%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Singapore
In 2021, purchases abroad of malt (not roasted) increased by 7.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, malt imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 7.1%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Australia (X tons), China (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of malt imports to Singapore, together comprising 92% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Belgium and the UK, which together accounted for a further 7.6%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +57.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Australia ($X), China ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest malt suppliers to Singapore, with a combined 92% share of total imports. Germany, Belgium and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.3%.
Among the main suppliers, Germany, with a CAGR of +44.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average malt import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
