In 2022, overseas shipments of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass increased by 28% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pigments, opacifiers and colours exports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Malaysia (X tons) was the main destination for pigments, opacifiers and colours exports from Singapore, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, pigments, opacifiers and colours exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X tons), more than tenfold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Malaysia amounted to -21.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (-17.7% per year) and India (-26.2% per year).
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass exports from Singapore, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 6.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Malaysia amounted to -20.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (-20.1% per year) and Indonesia (-12.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average pigments, opacifiers and colours export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -10.2% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pigments, opacifiers and colours export price increased by +100.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 65% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Singapore
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass, when their volume decreased by -0.1% to X tons. In general, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 101% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, pigments, opacifiers and colours imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 106% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Japan (X tons) was the main pigments, opacifiers and colours supplier to Singapore, accounting for a 95% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia (X tons), with a 1.8% share of total imports. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Japan totaled +28.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+9.6% per year) and Spain (-25.1% per year).
In value terms, Japan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass to Singapore, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 3.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 2.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Japan stood at +29.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-9.7% per year) and Italy (-6.1% per year).

The average pigments, opacifiers and colours import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
