The Singaporean market for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles shrank notably to $X in 2021, declining by -29.9% against the previous year. In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Indonesia (X tons) was the main destination for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from Singapore, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports to Indonesia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), ninefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Indonesia stood at -3.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+34.3% per year) and Malaysia (-4.2% per year).
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the key foreign market for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from Singapore, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Indonesia stood at -5.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+75.0% per year) and Malaysia (-1.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 19% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 152%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Singapore
In 2021, the amount of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imported into Singapore contracted to X tons, reducing by -3% on the year before. Overall, imports showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Poland (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports to Singapore, together accounting for 73% of total imports. Turkey, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +78.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest refractory bricks, blocks and tiles suppliers to Singapore, with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Japan, India, the Netherlands and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 31%.
Among the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +81.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average import price for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 8.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
