In 2021, overseas purchases of screwdrivers decreased by -47.4% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 121%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, screwdriver imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 128%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of screwdriver imports to Singapore, together comprising 69% of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, the Czech Republic, Germany and Italy, which together accounted for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +26.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
