Soya Bean Market Size in Singapore

In 2021, the Singaporean soya bean market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 137%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, soya bean exports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 140%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

India (X tons) was the main destination for soya bean exports from Singapore, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, soya bean exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), fourfold. The Philippines (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to India totaled +5.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+89.0% per year) and the Philippines (-43.3% per year).

In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for soya bean exports from Singapore, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to India totaled +25.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+88.8% per year) and the Philippines (-40.5% per year).

In 2021, the average soya bean export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, soya bean export price increased by +29.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 46%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
