Tomato Market Size in Singapore

In 2021, the Singaporean tomato market increased by 2.6% to $X, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. Tomato Production in Singapore

In value terms, tomato production surged to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 129% against the previous year. Tomato production peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tomato exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 373%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brunei Darussalam (X tons) was the main destination for tomato exports from Singapore, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, tomato exports to Brunei Darussalam exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (X tons), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Brunei Darussalam totaled +19.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+26.6% per year) and Belgium (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Brunei Darussalam ($X) remains the key foreign market for tomato exports from Singapore, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 14% share.

The average tomato export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 8.1% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 5.5%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tomato imports rose to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) was the main tomato supplier to Singapore, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 1.8% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (X tons), with a 1.6% share.
