Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brunei Darussalam (X tons) was the main destination for tomato exports from Singapore, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, tomato exports to Brunei Darussalam exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Brunei Darussalam totaled +19.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+26.6% per year) and Belgium (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Brunei Darussalam ($X) remains the key foreign market for tomato exports from Singapore, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Brunei Darussalam totaled +18.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+22.7% per year) and Belgium (0.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average tomato export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 8.1% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, tomato export price increased by +7.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 49%. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+21.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of tomatoes decreased by -3.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 5.5%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tomato imports rose to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) was the main tomato supplier to Singapore, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 1.8% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (X tons), with a 1.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Malaysia was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+11.5% per year) and Vietnam (+7.5% per year).

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
