The Czech Republic (X tons), Germany (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of ABS copolymers exports from Slovakia, together comprising 66% of total exports. Poland, Italy, Hungary and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +137.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the largest markets for ABS copolymers exported from Slovakia worldwide, with a combined 75% share of total exports. Lithuania, Hungary, China and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

Lithuania, with a CAGR of +274.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average ABS copolymers export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+57.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, purchases abroad of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms decreased by -27.3% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 42%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, ABS copolymers imports fell to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -21.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest ABS copolymers supplier to Slovakia, accounting for a 31% share of total imports. Moreover, ABS copolymers imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +18.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+68.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+33.2% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms to Slovakia, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany stood at +17.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+66.5% per year) and Belgium (+32.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average ABS copolymers import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 26% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight descent. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Italy ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) and South Korea ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
