In general, the total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Overall, exports saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 128%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, exports of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 96% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) from Slovakia, with a combined 82% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, China, Austria, Hungary and Romania, which together accounted for a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +64.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) exported from Slovakia were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 83% of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Austria, Hungary, China and Romania, which together accounted for a further 13%.

China, with a CAGR of +30.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 83% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep contraction. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, overseas purchases of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) decreased by -2.2% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after six years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -28.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 43%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) rose modestly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) to Slovakia, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), sevenfold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +5.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+3.7% per year) and Poland (+29.1% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) to Slovakia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 9.6% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +3.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+1.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+6.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
