In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers, when their volume increased by 5.4% to X units. In general, exports posted measured growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers reached $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 34%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Hungary (X units), Poland (X units) and Austria (X units) were the main destinations of exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Slovakia, with a combined 78% share of total exports.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Austria ($X per unit) and Romania ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per unit) and the Czech Republic ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia

In 2022, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers into Slovakia fell markedly to X units, reducing by -21% against 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 246% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers dropped notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 216% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Poland (X units) was the main supplier of aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container to Slovakia, with a 91% share of total imports. It was followed by Greece (X units), with a 2.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland amounted to +42.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (-17.1% per year) and the UK (-54.2% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Slovakia, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Greece ($X), with a 2.4% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland totaled +40.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (-17.8% per year) and the UK (-48.5% per year).

In 2022, the average import price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 17%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the price for Greece ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
