Overall, exports continue to indicate strong growth. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, animal feed exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a resilient increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for animal feed exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, animal feed exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hungary amounted to +22.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+134.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (-8.1% per year).

In value terms, Hungary ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for animal and pet feed exports from Slovakia, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Hungary totaled +23.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+129.6% per year) and the Czech Republic (+1.1% per year).

The average animal feed export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -51.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 146% against the previous year. In 2022, supplies from abroad of animal and pet feed decreased by -21.6% to X tons, falling for the sixth year in a row after five years of growth. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, animal feed imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, the Czech Republic (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of animal feed to Slovakia, with a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, animal feed imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), threefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Czech Republic amounted to +3.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+10.4% per year) and Poland (-0.3% per year).

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest supplier of animal and pet feed to Slovakia, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Czech Republic amounted to +4.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+8.1% per year) and Germany (+7.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average animal feed import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
