In 2021, shipments abroad of chicken meat decreased by -1.1% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports saw a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chicken meat exports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 110%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic (X tons) was the main destination for chicken meat exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, chicken meat exports to the Czech Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), fourfold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Czech Republic totaled -9.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-11.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+5.3% per year).
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the key foreign market for chicken meat exports from Slovakia, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the Czech Republic stood at -11.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-8.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+4.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average chicken meat export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+15.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia
In 2021, purchases abroad of chicken meat decreased by -26.7% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after eight years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chicken meat imports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chicken meat to Slovakia, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, chicken meat imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland totaled +18.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+15.6% per year) and the Czech Republic (+1.0% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chicken meat to Slovakia, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland stood at +21.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+17.8% per year) and the Czech Republic (-0.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average chicken meat import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 25% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Romania ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
