The Slovak market for copper bars, rods and profiles soared to $X in 2022, jumping by 137% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a pronounced setback. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Czech Republic (X tons) was the main destination for copper bar, rod and profile exports from Slovakia, with a 92% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria (X tons), with a 2.4% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was held by Hungary (X tons), with a 1.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Czech Republic stood at +3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (-10.2% per year) and Hungary (-18.2% per year).

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the key foreign market for copper bars, rods and profiles exports from Slovakia, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 1.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the Czech Republic totaled +1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-13.9% per year) and Austria (-10.6% per year).

Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, purchases abroad of copper bars, rods and profiles increased by 7.2% to X tons, rising for the sixth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 95%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Italy (X tons), France (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of copper bar, rod and profile imports to Slovakia, together comprising 57% of total imports. Germany, Sweden, Turkey and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
