In value terms, toy production contracted rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a sharp curtailment. In 2021, shipments abroad of dolls and toys decreased by -10.9% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, toy exports shrank modestly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of toy exports from Slovakia, with a combined 77% share of total exports. Germany, Austria, Italy, Denmark and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the key foreign market for dolls and toys exports from Slovakia, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Czech Republic totaled +6.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+1.8% per year) and Poland (-3.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average toy export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 56%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+44.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia
In 2021, supplies from abroad of dolls and toys increased by 120% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, toy imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +45.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Czech Republic (X tons) constituted the largest toy supplier to Slovakia, accounting for a 18% share of total imports. Moreover, toy imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Czech Republic amounted to +23.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-12.0% per year) and Germany (+28.0% per year).
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dolls and toys to Slovakia, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Czech Republic amounted to +31.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+31.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+47.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average toy import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -50.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 17%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
