After three years of growth, shipments abroad of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products decreased by -13.9% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 86%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, pasta products exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic (X tons) was the main destination for pasta products exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, pasta products exports to the Czech Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Spain (X tons), with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Czech Republic stood at +10.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+24.2% per year) and Spain (+15,660.1% per year).
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the key foreign market for dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products exports from Slovakia, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Czech Republic stood at +6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+17.9% per year) and Spain (+14,173.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average pasta products export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 53% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products decreased by -27.9% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -28.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pasta products imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the Czech Republic (X tons) constituted the largest pasta products supplier to Slovakia, accounting for a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, pasta products imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), fourfold. Serbia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Czech Republic amounted to +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-4.6% per year) and Serbia (0.0% per year).
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products to Slovakia, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Serbia, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Czech Republic stood at +14.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-1.7% per year) and Serbia (0.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average pasta products import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 32% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pasta products import price increased by +102.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+46.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
