Market Size for Duck and Goose Meat in Slovakia

For the third consecutive year, the Slovak duck and goose meat market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 9.5% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, showed prominent growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Production of Duck and Goose Meat in Slovakia

In value terms, duck and goose meat production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 80%. Duck and goose meat production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The average yield of duck and goose meat in Slovakia was estimated at X kg per head in 2022, leveling off at the year before. In general, the yield showed a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the yield decreased by -3.8%. In 2022, the number of animals slaughtered for duck and goose meat production in Slovakia was estimated at X heads, flattening at the previous year's figure. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 529%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, duck and goose meat exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 574% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The Czech Republic (X tons) was the main destination for duck and goose meat exports from Slovakia, with a 100% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary (X kg), with less than 0.1% share of total exports.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports into Slovakia

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of duck and goose meat decreased by -15.9% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, duck and goose meat imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, Hungary (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of duck and goose meat to Slovakia, accounting for a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, duck and goose meat imports from Hungary exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), threefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Hungary totaled +6.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+42.6% per year) and Poland (+11.1% per year).

In value terms, Hungary ($X) constituted the largest supplier of duck and goose meat to Slovakia, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Hungary stood at +11.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+17.4% per year) and the Czech Republic (+46.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average duck and goose meat import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 29% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
