For the third year in a row, the Slovak acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -13.4% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a deep slump. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, approx. X tons of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons were exported from Slovakia; with an increase of 26% against 2020. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 119%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports declined slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 245%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Austria (X tons) was the main destination for acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports to Austria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Hungary (X kg), with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Austria totaled +67.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (-33.4% per year) and Hungary (+34.2% per year).

In value terms, Austria ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons exports from Slovakia, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovenia, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Austria totaled +73.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (-33.6% per year) and Slovenia (+81.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -23% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 105% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+63.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia

For the third consecutive year, Slovakia recorded decline in supplies from abroad of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons, which decreased by -27% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 237% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives imports to Slovakia, together accounting for 67% of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, Germany, China, Hungary and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +67.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Austria ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives suppliers to Slovakia, with a combined 66% share of total imports.

Austria, with a CAGR of +69.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
