In 2021, overseas purchases of food preparations for infants increased by 10% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 29%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, baby food imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Czech Republic (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of baby food to Slovakia, accounting for a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, baby food imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Czech Republic stood at +1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-6.4% per year) and France (-15.2% per year).

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
