Germany (X tons) was the main destination for leather footwear exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, leather footwear exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Austria (X tons), with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled -6.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-7.6% per year) and Austria (+1.5% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for leather footwear exports from Slovakia, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to -5.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-4.7% per year) and Austria (+0.4% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia
Leather footwear imports into Slovakia dropped modestly to X tons in 2021, almost unchanged from the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
