Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 56% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports faced a precipitous descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 48%. For the third consecutive year, Slovakia recorded decline in overseas purchases of fresh or chilled whole chickens, which decreased by -60.6% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 319% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 221%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest fresh whole chicken supplier to Slovakia, with a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, fresh whole chicken imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland stood at +24.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (-1.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (-22.3% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fresh or chilled whole chickens to Slovakia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 27% share of total imports.

The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
