Exports from Slovakia

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of kaolin and kaolinic clays, when their volume increased by 29% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 198% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, kaolin exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 171%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for kaolin exports from Slovakia, with a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, kaolin exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X tons), fivefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hungary stood at +24.7%.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the key foreign market for kaolin and kaolinic clays exports from Slovakia, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Hungary amounted to +18.2%.

In 2021, the average kaolin export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 25%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, kaolin imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The Czech Republic (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of kaolin imports to Slovakia, with a combined 99% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +9.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest supplier of kaolin and kaolinic clays to Slovakia, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 2.4% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
