The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lettuce and chicory exports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Hungary (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main destinations of lettuce and chicory exports from Slovakia, together comprising 88% of total exports. Poland, Germany and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +82.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia

In 2022, overseas purchases of lettuce and chicory decreased by -6.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 41%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lettuce and chicory imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 52%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of lettuce and chicory imports to Slovakia, with a combined 78% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +22.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Poland ($X) were the largest lettuce and chicory suppliers to Slovakia, with a combined 77% share of total imports.
