In 2021, exports of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink from Slovakia dropped significantly to X units, shrinking by -71.1% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 415%. The exports peaked at X units in 2020, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, food manufacture machinery exports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 379% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Russia (X units), Poland (X units) and Belarus (X units) were the main destinations of food manufacture machinery exports from Slovakia, together accounting for 68% of total exports. These countries were followed by Uzbekistan, the Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary and Serbia, which together accounted for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +68.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, food manufacture machinery imports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 81%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) constituted the largest food manufacture machinery supplier to Slovakia, with a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, food manufacture machinery imports from Taiwan (Chinese) exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X units), with an 8.8% share.

Serbia, with a CAGR of +392.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average food manufacture machinery import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -26% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 51%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then declined sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
