Market Size for Optical Fibers and Bundles in Slovakia

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Slovak optical fiber and bundle market, when its value decreased by -31% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, saw a significant expansion. Optical fiber and bundle consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, optical fiber and bundle exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 198% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

The Czech Republic (X tons) was the main destination for optical fiber and bundle exports from Slovakia, with a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, optical fiber and bundle exports to the Czech Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X kg), with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Czech Republic stood at +79.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+79.4% per year) and Italy (+71.6% per year).

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Romania ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest markets for optical fiber and bundle exported from Slovakia worldwide, with a combined 81% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Romania, with a CAGR of +69.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average optical fiber and bundle export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 59% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of optical fibers and bundles decreased by -41.7% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 408%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, optical fiber and bundle imports declined notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 469% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of optical fiber and bundle imports to Slovakia, together accounting for 73% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +108.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest optical fiber and bundle suppliers to Slovakia were the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 77% of total imports.
