Orange Market Size in Slovakia
The Slovak orange market declined significantly to $X in 2022, dropping by -15.1% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for orange exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, orange exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ukraine (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hungary stood at +16.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+12.7% per year) and the Czech Republic (-11.1% per year).
In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the key foreign market for oranges exports from Slovakia, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Hungary amounted to +15.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+14.4% per year) and the Czech Republic (-11.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average orange export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -10.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 34%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia
In 2022, purchases abroad of oranges decreased by -17.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, orange imports contracted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Greece (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) were the main suppliers of orange imports to Slovakia, with a combined 84% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +7.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of oranges to Slovakia, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Greece ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain stood at +9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+2.4% per year) and South Africa (+10.0% per year).

The average orange import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 4.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 8.9%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
