In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Slovak pig fat market, when its value increased by 35% to $X. In general, consumption, however, showed a temperate expansion. Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for pig fat exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, pig fat exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X tons), twofold.

Pig fat imports into Slovakia contracted slightly to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -3.8% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pig fat imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw resilient growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Hungary (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of pig fat imports to Slovakia, together comprising 64% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +29.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
