In 2022, the amount of pineapples exported from Slovakia contracted significantly to X tons, with a decrease of -35.7% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pineapple exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 64% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for pineapple exports from Slovakia, with a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, pineapple exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X tons), more than tenfold.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the key foreign market for pineapples exports from Slovakia, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports.

In 2022, the average pineapple export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -10.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+1.8%).

Imports into Slovakia
In 2022, the amount of pineapples imported into Slovakia shrank sharply to X tons, with a decrease of -26% against the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +4.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, pineapple imports declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +3.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Costa Rica (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pineapple to Slovakia, accounting for a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, pineapple imports from Costa Rica exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), threefold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Costa Rica stood at +3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+6.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+44.1% per year).
In value terms, Costa Rica ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pineapples to Slovakia, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 9.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Costa Rica stood at +6.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+7.1% per year) and the Netherlands (+38.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average pineapple import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 13%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Honduras ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
