In general, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +15.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, polycarbonate imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 57%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest polycarbonate supplier to Slovakia, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, polycarbonate imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), twofold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+21.1% per year) and Italy (+10.1% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polycarbonates (in primary forms) to Slovakia, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled +2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+21.8% per year) and Italy (+10.5% per year).

The average polycarbonate import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 23%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
