Exports from Slovakia
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of rare gases (excluding argon), when their volume decreased by -68.1% to X cubic meters. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 7,849% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X cubic meters, and then declined sharply in the following year.
In value terms, rare gases exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 3,122%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Austria (X cubic meters), Montenegro (X cubic meters) and Poland (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of rare gases exports from Slovakia, together accounting for 98% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +4,086.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Austria ($X), Montenegro ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for rare gases exported from Slovakia worldwide, with a combined 97% share of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +2,228.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average rare gases export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, declining by -9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 366% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (-9.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Slovakia
In 2022, rare gases imports into Slovakia rose rapidly to X cubic meters, picking up by 12% compared with the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -1.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, rare gases imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Algeria (X cubic meters) constituted the largest rare gases supplier to Slovakia, with a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, rare gases imports from Algeria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X cubic meters), twofold. China (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Algeria amounted to +20.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+325.7% per year) and China (+48.6% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rare gases (excluding argon) to Slovakia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Algeria, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany stood at +9.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+3.0% per year) and Algeria (+28.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average rare gases import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, reducing by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, rare gases import price increased by +76.9% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 52%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter, and then declined slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per cubic meter), while the price for China ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+25.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
