Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin exports totaled $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The smallest decline of -0.5% was in 2016. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Czech Republic (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of cattle hide and skin exports from Slovakia, with a combined 75% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Austria, Italy, Croatia and Germany, which together accounted for a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Croatia (with a CAGR of +34.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of raw hides and skins of cattle, when their volume increased by 36% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 129%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 153%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of cattle hide and skin imports to Slovakia, together accounting for 75% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2019, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +13.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) constituted the largest cattle hide and skin suppliers to Slovakia, together comprising 57% of total imports.
