Exports from Slovakia

In 2022, overseas shipments of safety glass increased by 8.7% to X square meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, safety glass exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X square meters) was the main destination for safety glass exports from Slovakia, with a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, safety glass exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X square meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Czech Republic (X square meters), with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at -3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+24.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (-9.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for safety glass exported from Slovakia were Germany ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 74% share of total exports. Hungary, the UK, Portugal, Spain, France and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.

Portugal, with a CAGR of +386.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average safety glass export price amounted to $X per square meter, growing by 18% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 23%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to France ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia

In 2022, purchases abroad of safety glass increased by 5.5% to X square meters, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, safety glass imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X square meters) constituted the largest safety glass supplier to Slovakia, with a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, safety glass imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X square meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X square meters), with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland amounted to +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+6.9% per year) and Germany (-15.3% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest safety glass suppliers to Slovakia, together comprising 62% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Denmark, Sweden and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 34%.

Among the main suppliers, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +166.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average safety glass import price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, declining by -4.6% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 32%. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while the price for Sweden ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
