In value terms, sausage exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for sausage exports from Slovakia, with a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, sausage exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X tons), tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hungary amounted to +16.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+0.9% per year) and Poland (+41.9% per year).

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +64.0% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 13%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2021, the Czech Republic (X tons) constituted the largest sausage supplier to Slovakia, accounting for a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, sausage imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), threefold.
