Soap Market Size in Slovakia

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Slovak soap market, when its value decreased by -4.6% to $X. In general, the total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +56.6% against 2015 indices. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports from Slovakia

In 2021, approx. X tons of soap were exported from Slovakia; with an increase of 6.2% against 2020. In general, exports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 187%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, soap exports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 177%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of soap exports from Slovakia, with a combined 53% share of total exports. Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +83.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average soap export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 2.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 68%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Hungary ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) and Romania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Slovakia

In 2021, after seven years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of soap, when their volume decreased by -0.4% to X tons. In general, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In value terms, soap imports expanded to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest soap supplier to Slovakia, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, soap imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), threefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +15.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+11.1% per year) and Poland (+8.4% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the largest soap suppliers to Slovakia, together comprising 77% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, the Netherlands, Turkey, Italy, France, Serbia, the UK and Spain, which together accounted for a further 16%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Serbia, with a CAGR of +60.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average soap import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 56% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+12.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
