Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, transmission shaft exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable setback. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for transmission shaft exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, transmission shaft exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled -4.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+13.2% per year) and the United States (+16.0% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for transmission shafts and cranks, bearing housings and plain shaft bearings, gears and gearing and articulated link chain exports from Slovakia, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to -5.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+19.4% per year) and the United States (+18.8% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, transmission shaft imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of transmission shaft imports to Slovakia, together accounting for 61% of total imports. China, France, Slovenia and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +14.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
