Exports from Slovakia

In 2021, overseas shipments of tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber decreased by -0.5% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after six years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 227% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, rubber tube and pipe exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 398% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for rubber tube and pipe exports from Slovakia, with a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, rubber tube and pipe exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (X tons), with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled +26.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+38.3% per year) and Spain (+108.1% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber exports from Slovakia, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +20.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+29.9% per year) and Spain (+100.8% per year).

The average rubber tube and pipe export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovakia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of tubes, pipes and hoses of vulcanized rubber was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, rubber tube and pipe imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of rubber tube and pipe imports to Slovakia, together accounting for 51% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain, Turkey, France, Italy and China, which together accounted for a further 37%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +76.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest rubber tube and pipe suppliers to Slovakia were Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. The average rubber tube and pipe import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 4% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 51%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
