The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +81.2% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved tuna exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +63.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 57%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The Czech Republic (X tons) was the main destination for preserved tuna exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, preserved tuna exports to the Czech Republic exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tons), fourfold. Romania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Czech Republic totaled +3.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-0.7% per year) and Romania (+10.7% per year).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, preserved tuna imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +57.7% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Spain (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of preserved tuna imports to Slovakia, together accounting for 83% of total imports.
