Wadding Market Size in Slovakia

In 2021, the Slovak wadding market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Wadding Production in Slovakia

In value terms, wadding production surged to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 36%. Wadding production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Wadding Exports

Exports from Slovakia

In 2021, wadding exports from Slovakia fell notably to X tons, with a decrease of -44.4% on 2020. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 143% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wadding exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a tangible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of wadding exports from Slovakia, with a combined 60% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +139.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Romania ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Serbia ($X) were the largest markets for wadding exported from Slovakia worldwide, with a combined 55% share of total exports. Hungary, Poland, Germany, Ukraine and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

Among the main countries of destination, Hungary, with a CAGR of +97.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average wadding export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 55%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wadding Imports

Imports into Slovakia

In 2021, imports of wadding into Slovakia was estimated at X tons, almost unchanged from 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wadding imports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -30.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main suppliers of wadding imports to Slovakia, with a combined 69% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Serbia, Italy, Hungary, China and France, which together accounted for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +52.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wadding to Slovakia, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany stood at +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+20.6% per year) and Poland (+0.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average wadding import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wadding import price decreased by -13.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 31%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
