Romania (X cubic meters) was the main destination for preservative-treated rough wood exports from Slovakia, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, preservative-treated rough wood exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X cubic meters), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X cubic meters), with a 4.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Romania stood at +132.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+88.3% per year) and Austria (+135.2% per year).
In value terms, Romania ($X) remains the key foreign market for preservative-treated rough wood exports from Slovakia, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Romania totaled +214.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+72.8% per year) and Austria (+107.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average preservative-treated rough wood export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, faced a abrupt shrinkage. The export price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+57.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Slovakia
In 2021, overseas purchases of preservative-treated rough wood decreased by -26.4% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2013, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 791%. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2020, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 304% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Czech Republic (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of preservative-treated rough wood to Slovakia, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland (X cubic meters), with a 2.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Czech Republic amounted to +187.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+157.5% per year) and Austria (-37.7% per year).
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest supplier of preservative-treated rough wood to Slovakia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Czech Republic totaled +140.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+75.6% per year) and Austria (+197.2% per year).
