The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -26.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 39%. The exports peaked at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, woven carpet exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -24.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Austria (X square meters) was the main destination for woven carpet exports from Slovakia, with a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, woven carpet exports to Austria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X square meters), fivefold. The Czech Republic (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Austria stood at +6.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+1.6% per year) and the Czech Republic (-5.2% per year).

In value terms, Austria ($X) remains the key foreign market for woven carpets and other woven textile coverings exports from Slovakia, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Austria amounted to +6.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+5.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (-7.6% per year).

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, woven carpet imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X square meters), Germany (X square meters) and Poland (X square meters) were the main suppliers of woven carpet imports to Slovakia, together accounting for 55% of total imports. Austria, India, Belgium, Ukraine, China and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +56.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
