Apricot Market Size in Slovenia
In 2022, the Slovene apricot market increased by 58% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Apricot consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Apricot Production in Slovenia
In value terms, apricot production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 623% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
The average yield of apricots in Slovenia skyrocketed to X tons per ha in 2022, with an increase of 350% compared with 2021. In general, the yield, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the yield increased by 608% against the previous year. The apricot yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the harvested area of apricots in Slovenia totaled X ha, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 20%. The apricot harvested area peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports from Slovenia
After two years of growth, shipments abroad of apricots decreased by -75.8% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 243%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, apricot exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 352% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Croatia (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main destinations of apricot exports from Slovenia, with a combined 94% share of total exports. Austria lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 1.9%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +61.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Croatia ($X), Italy ($X) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) constituted the largest markets for apricot exported from Slovenia worldwide, together accounting for 93% of total exports. Austria lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 2.4%.
Among the main countries of destination, Austria, with a CAGR of +56.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average apricot export price amounted to $X per ton, flattening at the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, apricot export price decreased by -2.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 85%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Apricot Imports
Imports into Slovenia
In 2022, the amount of apricots imported into Slovenia rose sharply to X tons, with an increase of 10% on 2021 figures. Overall, total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +28.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, apricot imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of apricot to Slovenia, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, apricot imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Serbia (X tons), with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+4.2% per year) and Serbia (+26.0% per year).
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of apricots to Slovenia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy amounted to +1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+6.8% per year) and Austria (+11.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average apricot import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -24.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
