Avocado Market Size in Slovenia

The Slovene avocado market surged to $X in 2022, with an increase of 22% against the previous year. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of avocados, when their volume decreased by -50.5% to X tons. In general, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 2,053% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, avocado exports declined notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 1,265%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for avocado exports from Slovenia, accounting for a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, avocado exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands totaled +97.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+6.1% per year) and Germany (-2.3% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for avocados exports from Slovenia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the Netherlands stood at +104.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+8.0% per year) and Germany (+2.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average avocado export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 5.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+44.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of avocados, when their volume decreased by -38.4% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, avocado imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 105%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Israel (X tons) constituted the largest avocado supplier to Slovenia, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, avocado imports from Israel exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Peru (X tons), with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Israel totaled +22.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+144.2% per year) and Peru (+33.3% per year).

In value terms, Israel ($X) constituted the largest supplier of avocados to Slovenia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Israel stood at +26.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+149.5% per year) and Peru (+30.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average avocado import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, avocado import price decreased by -18.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
