Canned Mushroom Market Size in Slovenia

The Slovene canned mushroom market reduced to $X in 2022, shrinking by -14.3% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of canned mushrooms, when their volume increased by 64% to X tons. In general, exports enjoyed prominent growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, canned mushroom exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 55% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons) was the main destination for canned mushroom exports from Slovenia, accounting for a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, canned mushroom exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Croatia (X tons), with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy totaled +14.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+294.7% per year) and Croatia (+4.8% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for canned mushrooms exports from Slovenia, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Croatia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Italy amounted to +15.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+217.8% per year) and Croatia (+13.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average canned mushroom export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -28.8% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, canned mushroom export price decreased by -31.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Slovenia

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of canned mushrooms increased by 0.3% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 26%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, canned mushroom imports totaled $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of canned mushroom to Slovenia, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, canned mushroom imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands amounted to +1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+11.9% per year) and Germany (+5.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest canned mushroom suppliers to Slovenia were Croatia ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 61% of total imports. The Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Spain and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Among the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +60.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average canned mushroom import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
