Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 6,552% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

The Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports from Slovenia, together comprising 99% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +175.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exported from Slovenia worldwide, together accounting for 98% of total exports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +143.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for citrus fruits not elsewhere classified amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -12.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 57% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, overseas purchases of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified decreased by -55% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 61%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Israel (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified to Slovenia, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports from Israel exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Israel amounted to -8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+39.7% per year) and Germany (+245.0% per year).

In value terms, Israel ($X), Austria ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest citrus fruits not elsewhere classified suppliers to Slovenia, together comprising 89% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Germany, with a CAGR of +168.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for citrus fruits not elsewhere classified amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Israel ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
