Serbia (X tons) was the main destination for coal other than lingite exports from Slovenia, accounting for a 74% share of total exports. Moreover, coal other than lingite exports to Serbia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), fourfold. Bulgaria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Serbia amounted to +51.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-19.6% per year) and Bulgaria (+13.4% per year).

In value terms, Serbia ($X) remains the key foreign market for coal other than lingites exports from Slovenia, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Serbia totaled +47.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-14.0% per year) and Bulgaria (+13.0% per year).

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, coal other than lingite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of coal other than lingite imports to Slovenia, together accounting for 86% of total imports. Croatia, Germany, Slovakia and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +70,372.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
