Green Coffee Market Size in Slovenia

In 2022, the Slovene green coffee market increased by 52% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, the total consumption indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +75.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of coffee (green), when their volume decreased by -65.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 270%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, green coffee exports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 263% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main destinations of green coffee exports from Slovenia, with a combined 55% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +279.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for coffee (green) exports from Slovenia, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Italy totaled +257.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (+52.6% per year) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+25.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average green coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 50% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Montenegro (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Green Coffee Imports

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, overseas purchases of coffee (green) decreased by -38.2% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 61%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, green coffee imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest green coffee supplier to Slovenia, accounting for a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, green coffee imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Vietnam (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Brazil stood at +5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+2.3% per year) and Vietnam (+6.9% per year).

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coffee (green) to Slovenia, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Brazil stood at +5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+2.6% per year) and Colombia (+12.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average green coffee import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while the price for Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
