Ether Market Size in Slovenia

The Slovene ether market declined modestly to $X in 2022, reducing by -1.9% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Exports from Slovenia

In 2022, shipments abroad of ethers decreased by -27.6% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 186%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, ether exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 228%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Croatia (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main destinations of ether exports from Slovenia, together comprising 80% of total exports. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Taiwan (Chinese), Denmark, Austria and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +185.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for ether exported from Slovenia were Croatia ($X), China ($X) and Serbia ($X), together comprising 76% of total exports. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Taiwan (Chinese), Denmark, Austria and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +248.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average ether export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -11.1% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ether export price increased by +61.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 81% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+21.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ether Imports

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, imports of ethers into Slovenia shrank slightly to X tons, remaining stable against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 12%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, ether imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 77%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of ether to Slovenia, accounting for a 35% share of total imports. Moreover, ether imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany amounted to +4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+9.3% per year) and Turkey (+21.8% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and France ($X) were the largest ether suppliers to Slovenia, together comprising 66% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, France, with a CAGR of +26.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average ether import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ether import price increased by +58.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
