Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 547%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In value terms, frozen pork cut exports plummeted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 240% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

Croatia (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of frozen pork cut exports from Slovenia, together comprising 91% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for frozen pork cut exported from Slovenia were Croatia ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Switzerland ($X), with a combined 71% share of total exports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +19.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average frozen pork cut export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

After three years of decline, purchases abroad of frozen hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat increased by 13% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports posted slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen pork cut imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of frozen pork cut to Slovenia, with a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, frozen pork cut imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Denmark (X tons), with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +10.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+9.9% per year) and Denmark (-12.5% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of frozen hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat to Slovenia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with a 9.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to +6.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+7.1% per year) and Denmark (-14.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average frozen pork cut import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
